London, 06 June 2018 – Cardiff Bus is introducing tablets to reduce paperwork and improve the management of vehicle maintenance and compliance. The real-time mobile working solution from Freeway Fleet Systems will eliminate paper forms such as job cards and inspection sheets. Freeway’s software has already been implemented in the workshop and is used to schedule maintenance work, manage defects, parts and fuel spend.
With a fleet of 231 buses transporting over 24 million passengers, Cardiff Bus are looking to transform fleet maintenance by extending the use of Freeway as part of a company-wide strategy to improve efficiency with digital reporting. Cardiff Bus plan to integrate Freeway with their bus operations system to provide full visibility and improve management of vehicle allocation and availability.

Cardiff Bus first suggested mobile data capture to Freeway’s software developers when Dave Meazey, Cardiff’s bus Shift Manager, recognised the significant benefits mobile apps would provide. “It’s great to see Freeway develop the mobile apps that we always felt would be an important development to improve the accuracy and convenience of reporting,” he says.
Cardiff Bus is a major provider of bus services with its network covering Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and services to and from Newport. Every year its fleet of 231 buses carry more than 24 million customers. The distinctive green and orange buses carry 80,000 passengers every weekday on 3,000 journeys covering 27,000 miles.
